Actors leap into new words and roles written by our roster of writers.

Playwrights 6 will hold two Writer/Actor Lab dates in March, 2010.

So mark your calendars!

March 15th, 2010 — new words from Paul, David D and Amy Heidish.
March 22nd, 2010 — new words from Gib Wallis, Stephanie and Rob.

The labs will take place at 7 PM at the Celebration Theatre at 7051 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA.

The production runs February 20 through March 27th, 2010 at the Long Beach Playhouse in Anaheim on Friday and Saturday nights.

Laura Black developed Dance, Dance Baby in the Playwrights 6 Writer/Actor Lab.

Founder and writer Laura Black’s short film, Dance, Dance Baby! will be included in the REEL Ladies Short Film & Media Showcase on February 28, 2010 in Beverly Hills.

Black developed Dance, Dance Baby through Playwrights 6 in its Staged Reading Series.

Brecht in LA by Rick Mitchell

The final reading from 2010 Contest Finalists will be “Brecht in LA” by Rick Mitchell and directed by Jonathan Levit.

May of the regular actors of the Writer/Actor Lab will play roles on the cast of “Brecht in La.”

The reading will be on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at 8pm at the Underground Theatre, 1312 N. Wilton Pl (at Fountain east of Gower).

A reception with wine and lights snacks will follow.

“MUGGSY:” STAGED READING OF FINALIST
IN PLAYWRIGHTS 6 CONTEST

Playwrights 6’s staged reading series of the 2010 Contest Finalists for its 2010 Play Contest continues Tuesday, Jan. 26 with Dave Field’s“Muggsy,” a new comedy about how an outspoken macaw and the tabloid press raise superficiality to a new standard.

The free reading will be held at 8 p.m. at The Underground Theatre, 1312-1314 N. Wilton Place, Hollywood 90028. A free reception with refreshments will follow. For information, call (323) 860-6625 or go to www.playwrights6.com.

Field, a former ad man, ran his own Los Angeles radio creative service for 40 years. He turned to play writing full time in 2000, enjoying success with many one-acts and full-length plays. His most notable play, “Symmetry,” was staged in 2005 at the Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago where it received a Joseph Jefferson Award nomination for best play.

Playwrights 6’s Play Contest, open only to Los Angeles County residents, had more than 50 entries that yielded three finalists. The third and final staged reading will be Feb. 9, also at The Underground Theatre.

The critically acclaimed Playwrights 6 is one of an elite group of playwright-managed theater companies in Los Angeles. Founded in 1999, it is dedicated to developing and producing new works by Los Angeles playwrights.

Playwrights 6 productions have earned several L.A. Weekly Theatre Award nominations and Backstage West Garland Award honorary mentions. Playwrights 6 productions have also made several “Critics Top 10” lists and garnered several “Critic’s Picks.” Recently, the company was featured in articles in The Dramatist, American Theatre and L.A. Stage magazines.
